I took the plunge and glad I have. The improvements in my abilities and my knowledges over the last few years has been subtle to myself but very noticeably by others.

Finding a good coach that has the knowledge you need = doing your home work and maybe playing the field a bit. It’s not always easy but they are out there.

Having a coach that will grow with you as your needs change = having a coach that is humble enough to know their limits and communicate this to the athlete. The coach must either up his game or let has athlete go. As the athlete you must realize developing a skill is not linear and progress sometimes can be very subtle. You need to be happy with your coaching but also realize your coach can’t do it for you. They can just show you the door. You need to walk through it.

The athlete and the coach = a relationship, you need good communicate and lot of hard work from all that are involved for it to be successful.

Comment on CrossFit ≠ Bootcamp or [Insert knock-off here] by elise a. miller /crossfit-≠-bootcamp-or-insert-knock-off-here/#comment-119 Tue, 05 Mar 2013 22:46:27 +0000 /?p=4163#comment-119 Big Red could have focused the theme on getting ripped off, not lumping every gym in a heap of irrelevance and ineffective silliness. Better yet, BR could have adopted the attitude of, Oh cool! we’re doing something so great that the paradigm of fitness is actually changing, and maybe be happy for all the folks who don’t have $250 a month to shell out on crossfit, a price that makes it elitist and inaccessible to a great number of folks. This is saying nothing of what crossfit is ripping off—Olympic lifting, Russian kettle bells, specific sports, convict and military conditioning. Plus the author used “it’s” twice when it was supposed to be “its” in the possessive form. Not a contraction. But that’s neither here nor there. Maybe the post was intended to be controversial and in-your-face. But the result is snobbery that does nothing to support the so-called “community” crossfit purports to cultivate. It’s off-putting and whiny—WAH, “Globogyms” are stealing our thunder! “WAH! A website stole our pictures!” Granted that’s a fool move and that gym needs to get its own pics. But really, what’s next? Trademarking kneesocks? God forbid anyone actually make fitness gains in a context other than crossfit, a false idol if ever there was one. I’m sick of the cultish status things like crossfit, yoga, paleo etc. have sunk to and am happy it’s taught me to forge my own path. No trademark necessary.

Not sure the ‘shout-out’ to Boneman was necessary though- goes straight to his head 😉 Congrats on all the progress you have made, Borys. You should be very proud.
