Why should you train at the RAW School of Fitness?RAW School of Fitness

Why RAW School of Fitness

Why choose RAW School of Fitness over a traditional globo gym, or a different CrossFit affiliate?

The following features are what set us apart from any other fitness facility, both CrossFit affiliates and otherwise.

Personal Training/Fundamentals

What?

We are not a group exercise class or a boot camp facility. Prior to graduating to group classes, you will complete 10 or more one-on-one or two-on-one personal training sessions that will properly prepare you for the demands of group classes. We do not expect you to become proficient in complex movements in only a few sessions.

Why?

Learning movements that are required for improved fitness – movements like squats, snatches and pull-ups – take time, as does improving your mobility, your endurance, your speed and your power.

Some gyms will throw people into group classes right away, but we have found this to be a recipe for failure. Students aren’t prepared; they can’t move well; they don’t understand their capabilities; they over-train; they get injured. Or they are simply too intimidated to even show up to a class.

Improving your fitness is a slow process. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses when they show up at our doors. Some students struggle with mobility, others with stability, others come to us shortly after having knee surgery and need to be tended with care. And on the other end of the spectrum, some athletes arrive at our door well conditioned with an extensive athletic background.

The point is we all have different needs when we start a new strength and conditioning program. It doesn’t make sense to throw you right into classes before you have properly learned the movements. So at RAW School of Fitness, by the time you graduate to classes, you’ll have a good understanding of 30-40 movements, and you will know exactly how to scale each movement if you’re not yet able to master everything.

This also means that by the time you get to classes you will feel confident, have made some friends, and will feel comfortable showing up to hit the workout with the group. We set you up with a recipe for long-term results.

Coach for Life

What?

Don’t worry – we won’t abandon you after you graduate from personal training to group class. Even once you’ve graduated your coach will stay in contact with you, helping you stay on track with your goals.

You will continue to meet with your coach periodically in a one-on-one environment and are encouraged to book Personal Training sessions with them if you find holes in your training or would like to make specific gains. They are your connection to the box, your pat on the back and your motivation when you just can’t seem to motivate yourself.

Your Personal Coach is your lifeline to the box.  Our clients are our number one priority and we do everything in our power to help you achieve your goals and surpass them. All you need to do is show up! And if you don’t, expect a call from your coach!

Why?

Having a coach for life helps you stay on track with your training and your goals.

Often what happens is once students enter group classes, they discover new weaknesses, and so refresher sessions with your coach help you tackle new challenges.

Also, once you have been in classes for a while, you may want to do some more specialty work, such as begin a strength program. Your coach will put together strength or skill-based additional programs for you once you get to that point.

We have found that students who forge good relationships with their coaches, both at the gym and socially, are more likely to stick on the path to improved fitness, and ultimately the path to a healthier, happier life.

Benchmarks

What?

Our physical benchmarks are scores and knowledge our students must reach on specific movements and workouts before they graduate to group classes.

Read more here on what our exact physical benchmark requirements are.

Why?

Benchmarks are a way to measure your progress so we know when you’re ready for group classes. And once you’re in group classes, benchmarks continue to allow us to assess your development.

On your end, understanding the benchmarks will help you see exactly what we’re looking for, and exactly what level you need to be at before you’re safe to enter group classes.

Consequently, our benchmarks also help group classes run smoothly because we know that everyone in attendance is at an appropriate fitness level.

Tracking Results

What?

Our online App through ZenPlanner is a coaching tool we built ourselves with the help of Madlab Group data.

It allows for both you and your coach to monitor your progress from the day you show up at our doors for personal training until the day you decide you don’t want to be fit anymore (hopefully this never happens).

Why?

We have learned that people who keep track of their progress are more likely to stay motivated to be fit.

From keeping track of benchmarks, to keeping track of your attendance, tracking your results allows you to stay connected with not only your progress, but also your coach and the greater community, ultimately helping you stay on track with your training.

CrossFit Group Class

What?

Group class is where you build community, make gains, and have a fun workout with other members who have also achieved a specific standard as a requirement to join group class. Group class is always led by a coach, which means you will never be left to fend for yourself. Eyes are consistently on you, helping to train your weaknesses and celebrate your successes.

We offer over 30 classes a week in both the morning and evening on weekdays. We’re also open on weekends for fun partner or team-style workouts.

Specialty Programs

What?

Here at RAW School of Fitness, we are not limited to our Personal Training and Group Class Programs. We maintain both seasonal and ongoing specialty programs for students who are looking to work on their weaknesses, or for students who just want to mix it up a bit.

RAW Kidz & RAW Juniorz

Why?

Our specialty programs help students tackle their weaknesses and they simply provide more options for experienced students who want to try something new.

Facility

What?

There are many elements that go into making a world-class facility. From the training components like having enough space and equipment to practical components like free parking and showers, our facility has all the necessary components to help you get fit and stay fit for life.

Why?
Imagine having to fork out an extra $10 every time you park your car for a workout. Or having to park a mile away from the facility. This is the case for many locations.

Inconveniences like parking are enough to deter you from going to the gym at all. Things like having plenty of open space, clean bathrooms and big garage doors might seem like small peanuts, but when they’re taken away, people notice.

In short, everything runs more smoothly when things are convenient.

We have studied what makes a good place to work out and have teamed up with some of the best CrossFit gyms in the world to learn what people need and want from their training facility.

Community Events

What?

The strength in our school lies in our community. From BBQs to parties to fitness competitions, our students are more than just fitness junkies. They’re a group of active individuals who are down for just about anything.

Why?

Fitness is something that should make your life better. It’s not something we think should dominate your life. We believe it’s important to be well-rounded people who know how to let loose, play a game, have a drink and socialize with friends.

We have in turn learned that students who are engaged in the community are more likely to want to show up to the school to workout – because they show up not just to workout, but also to enjoy themselves socially.

Apprentice Coaching Program

What?

We are a School of Fitness. This means that all of our coaches are going through, or will have gone through, an extensive apprentice diploma program.

By the time they’re working with students they’ve done more than just a weekend course that tells them they’re now certified to personal train.

Our students spend months shadowing coaches before they work with their own students. They attend seminars – from Olympic weightlifting to mobility to gymnastics workshops. Additionally, they’re required to write tests in subjects ranging from anatomy to exercise physiology to coaching cues and nutrition. Our coaches believe on constant education and are always looking to enhance their learning to in-turn, enhance yours.

Read more about our extensive coaching diploma programs here.

Why?

We want to ensure that your coaches are experts when it comes to fitness and strength and conditioning.

The same way getting fit takes time – so does learning how to coach. By the time your coach starts working with you, he/she is a knowledgeable fitness professional.

Our coaches also regularly meet to share their education and knowledge, program, plan events and share feedback from students. All these practices are put in place for you as a student to have the best, educational experience we can deliver.
